Chief Kenny Kirby has been a member of the Concord Volunteer Fire Department since March 1998. Prior to becoming Chief, he served the department as Training Officer, Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Chief. He also served the department as Secretary and Vice-President prior to becoming a line officer. Chief Kirby holds the following certifications through the Virginia Department of Fire Programs: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Instructor I, Instructor II, Mayday Firefighter Down, Hazardous Materials Operations, LP Gas Emergencies, Trench Rescue, EVOC Class III, Vehicle Extrication Operations and Technician, Rope I, Rural Water Supply, and Basic Pump Operations. He is certified to teach Firefighter I & II, Communicating with Children, EVOC, Mayday Firefighter Down, and Mayday Awareness. He also holds certifications in NIMS (100,200,300,400,700,800), numerous National Fire Academy certificates, and is an EMT-Basic. Kenny has received training in Radiological Protection from the Harvard University School of Public Health, Nuclear Criticality Safety from the University of New Mexico and Occupational Safety and Health from the National Safety Council. In addition to the above, Chief Kirby holds an AAS in Marketing from Central Virginia Community College and a BBA from Averett University. He is employed by the Babcock & Wilcox Company as a Licensing Engineer. |
